Light shines in the lower column as well as the upper. The ribbed body of the lamp is continuous and is seemingly grouped in two halfway through by the black metal UFO dish.

Rotaflex was founded in 1953 by Bernard Stern who led the company to become one of Britain's leading manufacturers in just a few years. Rotaflex was the recipient of several awards including the coveted iF Design Award in 1957 for this type of pendant lamp.
The type of plastic used to manufacture the lamp was invented by Rotaflex in collaboration with the French company A.R.P. - L'Atelier de Recherche Plastique. The A.R.P was founded in 1954 by Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier & Joseph-André Motte and stopped barely three years later.
